Shakespeare and Modernism

結構、買うべきかどうか悩む書評。最終章、ウルフのFreshwater及び A Room of One's Ownの読みはほめられているのでその章だけでも目を通すべきか。

What is informative about the chapter is the contextual material on the theatre criticism of Goege Bernard Shaw. This sets a pattern for the book, in which neglected, proto-modernist texts are paired with canonical ones.

In a final chapter, scholarship combines with some close reading of the two versions of Woolf's play, Freshwater, in order to reconsider the implications of A Room of One's Own's "thinking back" to Shakespeare's unsung sister. The result is a more persuasive contribution to the critical history of the Modernist of Avon.
